A forest… On the Ring!

16 April 2025

During the Op de Ring festival, a section of the A10 will be transformed for one day into… a forest! A temporary forest with 750 large trees gifted to the city by 14 donors, and another 7,500 smaller trees from De Gezonde Stad (The Healthy City).

For a greener future

In a place normally dominated by traffic, Amsterdammers of all ages can relax and recharge in the Forest on the Ring for one day. A moment to experience the power of nature – and how good a forest can make you feel. This forest carries a clear message: Amsterdam can and must become greener.

But it doesn’t end after one day. All the trees from the Forest on the Ring will be permanently planted in and around the city. And there’s more: another 75,000 trees will be planted across the region. This is how the forest keeps growing. For cleaner air. For more shade. For a healthy and vibrant future.

750 trees gifted to the city

Last year, a group of Amsterdam-based foundations and companies announced they would donate 750 trees to the city, in honor of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. These trees will first appear during the Op de Ring festival, after which they’ll be planted in permanent spots throughout the city. This initiative supports urban greening and creates a lasting legacy that future generations will benefit from.

This has been made possible by a €2.6 million donation, contributed by 14 different donors:
Ribbink Van den Hoek Familiestichting, The Brook Foundation, Stichting Tanka, Rubens Capital, Rituals, Stichting Turing Foundation, Construct Invest, Dura Vermeer, Pinnacle, Stichting Van Oostrom Foundation, Stichting Phoenix Foundation, Stichting MCI, Stichting Hartwig Foundation and Heineken (as part of its existing sponsorship package).
